The Student Association (HMJ) of the Development Economics Study Program, Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS), organized a National-Level Scientific Writing Competition (Lomba Karya Tulis Ilmiah/LKTI). A total of 37 teams submitted their papers for assessment by a panel of judges, which then shortlisted to the top 10 teams for the presentation round. From these, the three best papers would be selected.

In the final round, held on Tuesday, 24 September 2024 at the UNS Library Hall, 9 of the 10 shortlisted teams were able to present and defend their scientific ideas. The participating teams came from a diverse range of universities, including Universitas Gadjah Mada, Universitas Brawijaya, Universitas Sebelas Maret, Politeknik Negeri Semarang, Universitas Linggabuana, PGRI Sukabumi, and Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta.

Alya Angelica Kusuma, Chair of the LKTI organizing committee from HMJEP FEB UNS, explained that this national-level competition is part of the 18th Annual Conference of Economics Forum (ALCOFE) 2024, carrying the theme “Towards Sustainable Futures: Unveiling Creative and Innovative Pathways within the Framework of Circular Economy.” The specific theme of this year’s student scientific writing competition was “Cross-Sector Synergy to Address the Challenges of the Circular Economy in the Modern Era.”

The competition aims to uncover student potential by fostering deeper understanding and sensitivity toward the role of the circular economy, particularly in conjunction with the creative economy, as a means of tackling global challenges.

“This competition is open to students from both economics and non-economics backgrounds across various universities in Indonesia. It encourages participants to express their ideas and creativity in the form of scientific writing,” she said.

She further noted that the series of events is expected to meaningfully contribute toward building a more sustainable and prosperous future for all. “This movement not only aims to reduce pressure on natural resources and the environment, but also opens up opportunities for innovation that can boost competitiveness and economic sustainability. Through such synergy, we can build an economic ecosystem that is not only productive and efficient but also enduring.”

On behalf of the Development Economics Program, FEB lecturer Ratna Malisa Indriawati, S.E., M.E., expressed her gratitude to all committee members for successfully organizing the national-level LKTI. She emphasized the long-term value of the students’ written contributions.

“What you have written today won’t just matter now — it will still hold relevance five or ten years into the future. You are part of the golden generation, the pillars of the nation’s future. Welcome, and good luck competing,” she said.

The panel of judges consisted of three members: Muhammad Nur Hikmat, S.E., M.E., an academic from UNS; along with two external judges — Dr.(c). Ghulam Fathul Amri, SH., SST., ME., MESy., MKn., MM., MT., from the Surakarta City Government; and Rony Widjanarko, SH., MH., Head of the Surakarta City Research and Development Agency (Balitbangda).
