The atmosphere in the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Sebelas Maret (FEB UNS) as well as the UNS environment look quiet after the UNS Rector issued a Circular regarding Early Precautions, Preparedness, and Anticipatory Measures to Prevent the Spread of Covid-19 Infection in UNS.

In the Circular, the Rector instructed all UNS lecturers to change face-to-face lectures into online lectures started on Monday, 16 March to Saturday, 28 March 2020.

The classrooms that usually is full of teaching and learning activities temporarily are idle. The lecture room in FEB UNS Building 2, 4, and 5, seems empty and quiet, occasionally only the cleaning staff who could be seen cleaning the classroom as well as the academic support staff or FEB UNS staff. Several academic support staff can be seen carrying out their administrative activity in their room. Administrative services are still running with guard scheduling while others also implement a half-day shift.

The scheduling refers to the Circular No. 10/UN27/SE/2020 regarding Service Adjustment in order to prevent the spread of Covid-19. Within the Circular it is mentioned that the Head of Work Unit can appoint support staff who will carry-out Work From Home (WFH) selectively and fairly. The appointment should consider the type of assignment that can be done from home, the urgency or the job/work, domicile, transportation used by the staff, and their health condition.

As for the support staff who carry out their guard duty schedule is facilitate with fingerprint, while those who are appointed to do WFH should do a manual attendance and reporting their work progress directly to the Head of the unit. The coordination among the Head and staff can be conducted using online media such as zoom cloud meeting, cisco webex, WhatsApp, and many others. This aims to reduce the potential crowd gathering and face-to-face meetings that bring lots of people.

A few days ago, this online coordination is conducted between the Vice Dean of Academic Affairs FEB UNS, Dr. Izza Mafruhah, M.Si with the Head of Academic Sub-Section, Nur Hariawan, SH, which discuss all matters related with information and activities in Academics Section, especially related with the online lecture that currently implemented. All lecturers in the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Sebelas Maret (FEB UNS) since 16-28 March are required to implement online lectures. This requirement is started since the issuance of UNS Rector Circular regarding Early Precautions, Preparedness, and Anticipatory Measures to Prevent the Spread of Covid-19 Infection in UNS.

There is flexibility in determining the application used for the online lecture, which depends on the lecturer’s capability. Therefore, there are various applications used by the FEB UNS lecturers such as UNS Spada (online learning system), Google Classroom, Google Meeting, Zoom Cloud Meeting, Cisco Webex, Instagram Live, and WhatsApp Group (WAG).

At the beginning of the online learning implementation, Prof. Doddy Setiawan, SE., MSi., Ph.D., Ak., a lecturer from the Accounting Study Program, carried-out a lecture in Research Methodology using Zoom Cloud meeting in front of 40 students.

Using this application, the lecture can be conducted effectively because the lecturer and the students can communicate directly using a video call. As for the attendance can be monitored directly who has been joined and who has not.

In the lecture that lasted for at least 2 hours, there were minor connection problems encountered by three students from away regions.

Muhammad Ridwan Ikhsan, the C Class Representative for Research Method course mentioned that during the Covid-19 emergencies, this online lecture is effective. However, it can only be achieved if the students’ network connection is not hampered.

“It happened that I use Wi-Fi, for me personally it is not a problem, but for our fellow students who use internet quota is mostly objected since the online lecture can last for 2 hours,” he explained to FEB UNS PR.

Meanwhile, on the same day, Deny Dwi Hartomo, S.E., M.Sc., a lecturer from the Management Study Program was also conducting an online lecture on Banking Management in class C using WhatsApp Group.

WhatsApp Group was chosen because the internet quota needed to follow the online lecture will not be burdening the student, even though the interaction was limited to written message or voice record, no eye contact with the students.

“Alhamdulillah, all students 100% can access, this proved from the ‘seen’ status of every chat is read by all the students. WhatsApp does not need a lot of quotas. Video conference is more effective but it needs speed and considerable quota, which might burden the students,” he explains.

During the 2.5 hours lecture, there was a problem in sending the students’ presentation video due to the limited size of the video file up to 60 Mb, thus, any file exceeding the limit has to be split.

Another FEB UNS lecturer, Siti Aisyah Tri Rahayu, S.E., M.Si., uses two applications in her online lecture conducted consecutively in 3 classes, the Webex for the undergraduate program in Economic Development and Google Meeting for the lecture in Doctoral Program in Management. From the two programs, Dr. Aisyah encounters a technical problem especially in terms of difficulty to connect and inaudible voice.

Although there are still some obstacles to the implementation of online lecture applications, in general, the teaching and learning activities during the emergency conditions can be carried out in accordance with a predetermined schedule. (Humas)

Following the Rector of Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Circular Number: 1480 /UN27/HK/2020 Regarding Early Precautions, Preparedness, and Anticipatory Measures to Prevent the Spread of Covid-19 Infection in UNS, the Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), Prof. Drs. Djoko Suhardjanto, M.Com.(Hons)., Ph.D., Ak., has coordinated with all Vice Dean, Head of Study Program, Head of Unit, and Head of Sub-Unit to start the cleaning process in all facilities of FEB UNS.

Following the coordination, Monday, March 16, 2020, a cleaning process and disinfectant spraying was conducted in all FEB UNS facilities such as the Head office, administrative room, lecturer room, classroom, laboratory, Student Activity Unit room, toilet, and mushola.

The disinfectant spraying was focused on the parts that are often touched by people such as door handles, chairs, tables, stairs, elevators, and many others. Moreover, the Mukenas and carpet in FEB UNS Al Latif Mushola will not be enabled for the time being. For religious activities, congregants can bring their own prayer mats and Mukenas. To anticipate any congregant who does not bring praying mats and, thus, needs to pray on the floor, cleaning staff is ready to clean up the floor after the praying is over. The FEB UNS also provides hand sanitizer in several Faculty buildings that can be used by the academics member and general public.

“In this condition, cleaning and disinfectant spraying on the facilities is important. I hope that all FEB UNS academic members will support this program. Let us together made the FEB campus become a healthy campus,” the Dean stressed.

The cleaning and disinfectant spraying on FEB UNS facilities can be finished within a day. During the spraying process, the faculty head and staff were requested to remain outdoor until the disinfectant “smell” has completely vanished.

A day before the facility spraying, the Head of FEB UNS Meeting was conducted in FEB UNS meeting Room 1 to discuss the operationalization of the Rector Circular especially the implementation of online lectures, the division of work hours for the academic support staff, and other matters.

The Dean hopes that all the Head of Study Program can disseminate the result of the FEB UNS Meeting in their WhatsApp group, thus all faculty members can understand the measures that have been agreed at the meeting. (Humas)

The event attended by Faculty Members, Academic Support Staff, Dharma Wanita, and students of FEB UNS was started with the cutting of Tumpeng by the Dean of FEB UNS, Prof. Drs. Djoko Suhardjanto, M.Com., (Hons)., Ph.D., Ak. The Dean on his opening remark expressed his sense of happiness after seeing a different atmosphere from the previous day. All who attend the event wear traditional outfit, very lively with diversity.

“The diversity around us is natural and should not become something that must be opposed. We should be grateful for the diversity that exists as the wealth of our country,” he said.

The Dean also thanks and appreciate the FEB UNS Faculty members, Academic Support Staff, Dharma Wanita, and the students of FEB UNS who had participated to enliven the event in celebrating UNS Anniversary. At the end of the remark, the Dean invites all participants who present to pray for UNS, thus it can be an increasingly prosperous and beneficial institution for the nation.

Meanwhile, the Rector of UNS, Prof. Dr. Jamal Wiwoho, SH, M.Hum., in his visit to FEB UNS in the middle of the fashion show expressed his happiness and appreciate the great participation of the FEB UNS academic members.

“Based on the previous visit to other faculties in UNS, FEB has the most participants,” said Prof. Jamal.

With the various traditional outfit worn by the FEB UNS academic staff, it shows diversity. However, even though there are many traditional outfits they remain one large family UNS.

Based on the result of the fashion show, which followed by around 120 participants, the jury determines 9 winners based on their costume, make-up, and performance. Yohana Tamara, SE, MM, successfully gets the first winner, Emi Indrawati, SE earns the second winner and Dra. Ign. Sri Seventi P, M.Si., gets the third winner. For the first runner up Winny Perwithosuci, SE., second runner up achieved by Ika Warsiyanti, S.Kom., and lastly the third runner up is Amina Sukma Dewi, SE, M.Sc.

The additional acknowledgment was awarded for a special category, the Best Costume was awarded to Indrian Supheni, SE, M.Aks, Best Performance was awarded to Kuncoro, and the Favorite Winner was awarded to Ari Kuncoro Widagdo, SE, MBA, Ph.D., Ak. The first winner and Best Performance will represent FEB UNS to perform at the university level on March 21, during the Wayang Kulit performance. (Humas)

The Investment Gallery of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Sebelas Maret (FEB UNS) held a Sebelas Maret Investment Championship (SMIC) from Tuesday to Wednesday (3-5/3/2020). The SMIC that was held annually is a student championship at the national level.

In this 2020, the SMIC brings the theme “Live for Invest, Achieve Great Future”. This theme implies that by investing we can achieve a bright future. Investment can be made at an early time and one does not need to have a job first.

The Head of Capital Market Laboratory FEB UNS, Nasyi’ah Hasanah Purnomowati S.E., M.Sc, Ak, in her remark during the Gala Dinner, Friday night (6/3/2020) mentioned that SMIC is one of the series of event in the Sebelas Maret Investment Festival (SMARVEST). Other activities within this series are Fieldtrip, Gala Dinner, and Investalk as the peak of the SMARVEST that will be held on April 11^th, 2020.

The championship that was followed by 85 teams from various universities all across Indonesia aims to improve the students’ insight on Capital Market, especially the insight on shares. From the total of 85 teams that follow the Online trading Competition stage, there were 13 teams that were eligible to join further stage namely the Paper Analysis Post Test, Fast Challenge, Study Test, and Presentations.

Meanwhile, the Vice Dean of Academic Affairs, Dr. Izza Mafruhah, M.Si, who attended the event representing the FEB UNS Dean, in her remark appreciates the 13 finalists that have successfully eliminate other participants. Further, she explained that Indonesia now until 2040 will face a dividend demographic bonus, where the number of the young generation is the highest. “If the young generation has a high investment spirit as you are, I believe that the demographic bonus can be utilized optimally,” she stressed.

The national objective to become one of the Asian Tigers can be achieved. Especially because Indonesia is not a developing country but a developed country, thus the role of the young generation is important.

Dr. Izza also motivates the 13 finalists who attended the Gala Dinner. For the winner and those who happened to be less fortunate, they are expected to continue to move with enthusiasm, for the next year there is still an opportunity to participate in the same championship.

The trophy for the best 4 teams in SMIC 2020 is delivered during the Gala Dinner by Dr. Izza and Nasyi’ah, M.Si.

The first winner is achieved by LEVIOS, a team from Universitas Negeri Semarang (team members are Hery Kharisma Fitri &Latifah Putri Hening Hati), second winner is from Universitas Sebelas Maret team SAWADIKAP (team members are Muhammad Ryan Ilyasa & Widhy Setyo Nugroho), whose members is from the Undergraduate Program in Management FEB UNS. The last or third winner is achieved by PROFIT ALERT team from Universitas Indonesia (UI) with team members I Gede Angga Raditya Prasdha Wibawa & Hendra Rusly, while for Best Paper award is awarded to NSL SQUAD team from Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta with team members of Anggung Gigih Mutawadhi & Annisa Khoirul Amanati. The younger generation as the successor of the country needs to understand the national history and the ideals of the struggle of the nation’s founders. This is important to establish the determination to study hard and continue to develop themselves for national development. This also grows the awareness to defend the country from any threats, either from internal or external. This statement was delivered by Prof. Drs. Djoko Suhardjanto, M.Com., (Hons)., Ph.D., Ak., the Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Sebelas Maret (FEB UNS) Surakarta to the students of SMP Negeri 1 Purwodadi, during the UNS Mengajar Indonesia Program, on Tuesday, March, 3^rd, 2020.

In the front of the eighth-grade students, Prof. Djoko shares knowledge on National Defense and National Values that lacking or not yet delivered by the teachers in the SMP Negeri 1 Purwodadi. To build a favorable atmosphere, Prof. Djoko, who is also the alumni of the SMP Negeri 1 Purwodadi tries to interact more with the students and discuss casually regarding the material. Prior to the material discussion, Prof. Djoko delivers an opening on his background, grew up in the same environment, from the village with all the trinkets of simplicity.

The students are motivated to continue learning, continue their studies to a higher level in order to achieve their dream. Related to the teaching and learning process in SMP N 1 Purwodadi, Prof. Djoko deeply regretted the conditions in the middle school environment that lacked in terms of National Defense knowledge, Pancasila, and history.

“If in the middle school there is a limited national understanding, on the higher education level, they will be less concerned with the nation,” he explains to Humas FEB.

More attention from many parties is needed to find the best solution for this problem. The process to instill nationalism and National Defense should be started at an early age to prevent negative behavior that can damage the nation.

Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Rahmawati, M.Si., Ak., the Director of the Doctoral Program in Economics (PDIE FEB UNS), who is also the teaching members in SMP N 1 Purwodadi, during another class teach a soft skill that must be mastered by the students.

To be successful, excellence in the academic field is not enough. Students need to have soft skills such as communication, responsibility, discipline, independence, openness, initiative, innovation, and many others.

Before presenting the material, the students are asked to draw their self-portrait, “Who I am”, and their dream. “It is very interesting and cute (the drawing), many students want to be a doctor, astronaut, and designer,” she explains.

For Prof. Djoko and Prof. Rahma, the experience to teach in the SMP 1 Purwodadi give a very pleasant impression and feel close. Both consider that the “UNS Mengajar Indonesia” Program has an enormous advantage and hope that this program will be continued in the following year. Establishing a closeness with the community, especially in education (school) environment, in order to motivate the school in a certain region to have pride.
