The Faculty Council Meeting is a regular agenda organized by the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Sebelas Maret (FEB UNS), to prepare for lectures and evaluate learning process in each semester. In preparation for the August 2025–January 2026 semester, the meeting was held at Suhardi Hall, FEB UNS, on Friday, 22 August 2025. Dean of FEB UNS, Prof. Bhimo Rizky Samudro, S.E., M.Si., Ph.D., presented several updates and important programs across academic and non-academic fields.

First, the selection of international class students for this term is carried out through students’ academic records and independent admission pathway, which currently is awaiting the final decision for the achievement inquiry selection and independent test pathways. The Master’s Education toward Doctorate Program for Excellent Undergraduates (PMDSU) is ongoing with participants from several study programs, while the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Program for undergraduate and master’s levels is also being implemented. In addition, Level 1 and 2 Internal Quality Audits (AMI) at both study program and faculty levels have been completed, followed by evaluations of the results. Regarding the enhancement of education quality, the AACSB accreditation process is ongoing with the submission of the Eligibility Application and the completion of the Business Unit draft.

On the governance side, the implementation of Integrity Zone and Risk Management across various areas has progressed to reports preparation and risk identification drafts stage, with official reporting scheduled. The entry meeting with the Internal Supervisory Unit (SPI) has been completed, with the exit meeting as follow-up. In terms of collaboration, the partnership program for the Islamic Business Center with BPKH establishment has entered the groundbreaking stage, while scholarship collaborations for undergraduate students at FEB UNS have been allocated and are being monitored simultaneously by the stakeholders.

In education, the Global Challenge program with selected students traveling abroad is awaiting evaluation reports. Laboratory-based training related to export-import and fintech has also been carried out, with follow-up programs being planned. Furthermore, the Introduction to Campus Life for New Students (PKKMB), focusing on both academic and non-academic coordination, is scheduled for August 2025. At the same time, application training for academic support staff was conducted in an integrated manner and is currently under evaluation.

Alongside the Dean’s presentation on faculty achievements, an evaluation for the second term of the 2024 academic year learning process and preparation for new students in 2025 were also discussed. The learning plan, including lecturer assignments, workload distribution, English language instruction, as well as training and certification as requirements for the final examination were also discussed for the the first term of 2025 academic year. The launch of academic handbooks for undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs, along with the implementation of Academic Advising coordination, also became a priority.

Additionally, for the faculty’s governance, career development of teaching staff, employee discipline, budget management, and infrastructure are managed effectively and sustainably. Collaboration with alumni through partnerships and scholarships is under continuous development. AACSB accreditation and the Introduction to Campus Life for New Students (PKKMB) also received special attention during the meeting.

In the following session, the Vice Deans delivered presentations according to their respective fields: Prof. Tri Mulyaningsih, S.E., M.Si., Ph.D., Vice Dean for Academic and Research Affairs; Sutaryo, S.E., M.Si., Ph.D., Ak., CA., CRA., CRP., ACPA., Vice Dean for Non-Academic Affairs; and Tastaftiyan Risfandy, S.E., M.Sc., Ph.D., Vice Dean for Student and Alumni Affairs.

Following the Deans’ Office presentations, lecturers had the opportunity to deliver questions, suggestions, and feedback to the Dean Office. The Faculty Council Meeting of FEB UNS also aligns with the faculty’s commitment to supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals). Through the continuous improvement of learning quality, the development of international programs, and strategic collaborations with various stakeholders, FEB UNS contributes significantly to building excellent human resources capable of responding to global challenges in a sustainable way.

Digital transformation has become a strategic issue in the development of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Indonesia. However, its implementation often does not begin with a comprehensive understanding of business processes. Addressing this challenge, the Operations and Strategy Management Research Group (RG MOS), in collaboration with the Surakarta Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN), launched a community engagement program entitled “Business Process Literacy as the Foundation for Digital Solutions for SMEs” on Wednesday, 20 August 2025, at UNS Inn.

Drs. Yong Dirgiatmo, M.Sc., Ph.D., Head of RG MOS, stated in his remarks that this program is designed to assist SMEs in systematically identifying the structure and requirements of their business processes before adopting digital solutions. Through a research-based and simulation-driven approach, SME participants are equipped with analytical capabilities and foundational skills to formulate targeted digital strategies, rather than simply following trends.

According to Dr. Yong, many SMEs tend to immediately focus on digital tools such as social media, websites, or digital payment methods without first understanding their internal processes. In fact, effective digitalization can only be achieved if it is grounded in process efficiency, clarity of priorities, and accurate identification of real business challenges.

This community engagement program emphasizes that sound digital decision-making must begin with an understanding of business characteristics, including operations management, resources, marketing, finance, and sustainability.

Through an applied research approach, RG MOS introduced analytical methods such as the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Step-Laddering Technique to SME participants. These tools are used to identify business process priorities, recognize core problems, and formulate the most relevant and impactful digital solutions. The program, carried out by RG MOS over approximately nine months, began with a one-month field observation to map out the characteristics and fundamental needs of SMEs supported by the Surakarta Chamber of Commerce.

In the following stage, the group conducted a two-month decision-pattern introduction, focusing on analytical tools to understand how SMEs make decisions in facing their business challenges. For the next two months, RG MOS organized workshops and simulations on digitalization decision-making based on actual business processes, equipping SMEs with the skills to develop their own digital strategies. In the sixth month, the group conducted a one-month evaluation to assess the effectiveness of the approach. The final three months were dedicated to preparing the final report and drafting academic publications as outcomes of the program.

In its implementation, RG MOS also opened opportunities for collaboration with other institutions, including information technology teams from the banking sector and relevant financial institutions, to support the adoption of secure and affordable digital solutions. This initiative not only addresses the urgent need for effective digital transformation but also represents a concrete contribution to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Through a structured and collaborative applied research approach, this program promotes managerial and digital literacy (SDG 4), strengthens the capacity of small businesses to grow inclusively and sustainably (SDG 8), facilitates technology adoption tailored to real business needs (SDG 9), and fosters synergy between academia, business actors, and entrepreneurial organizations such as KADIN (SDG 17). This initiative forms an important foundation for building a local economic ecosystem that is adaptive, innovative, and capable of addressing the challenges of the digital era through strategies rooted in a deep understanding of business processes.

Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS), invited an inspiring alumna to the Introduction to Campus Life for New Students (PKKMB) on Thursday, 21 August 2025, at the Suhardi Hall, FEB UNS. Bunga Herlina Oktaviyanti, an alumna of the Accounting Study Program who currently serves as Senior Vice President – Executive Business Officer at PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (BRI), delivered a motivational talk to more than 600 new FEB UNS students.

Tastaftiyan Risfandy, S.E., M.Sc., Ph.D., Vice Dean for Student and Alumni Affairs, introduced Bunga as one of FEB UNS’s outstanding alumni who brings pride to the faculty. He highlighted that she is a clear example of a graduate who successfully integrated academic competence, personal character, and organizational experience during her studies into her professional career.

With her distinguished career in the national banking sector and her current position as Senior Vice President at PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk, Bunga has inspired many, not only through her achievements but also through her consistency in upholding integrity, hard work, and the spirit of lifelong learning. In her session, she encouraged students to take pride in being part of UNS and to use their university years as a foundation for building their future. “Dreams are free, so dream as high as you can. Once you have a vision, the most important thing is persistence in realizing it. Keep working tirelessly, without stopping,” she remarked.

She also reminded the students that every achievement comes with its own challenges. “On the journey to reach a certain point, the path is never always smooth. What matters is how we respond to those obstacles—with spirit and determination, without giving up,” she explained.

Bunga further shared her perspective on resilience when facing rejection and failure. “If you never face rejection or failure, you will not know how tough your struggle is, nor how beautiful success feels when it comes. It is okay to feel sad, but never forget to rise again!” she emphasized.

Beyond academics, Bunga underlined the importance of involvement in campus organizations. She stated that active participation develops leadership skills, builds networks, enhances communication abilities, and strengthens teamwork. Concluding her presentation, she emphasized that students should go through three essential stages.

First, begin university life with energy and enthusiasm to grow both individually and as part of the FEB UNS community. Next, take the learning process seriously by making full use of the curriculum and opportunities for developing both hard and soft skills offered by the university. Finally, become graduates of quality, adaptability, and integrity—ready to face the professional world with strong competence and character. Her motivational message is expected to inspire and encourage new FEB UNS students as they embark on their academic and career journey.

Through this activity, FEB UNS contributes directly to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4: Quality Education, by fostering meaningful, experience-based learning through alumni engagement as role models. It also supports SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, by equipping students with the skills and motivation needed to face a dynamic and competitive workforce.

The Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS), hosted an online meeting with parents and guardians of FEB UNS new students on Sunday, August 11, 2025. The event aims to build synergy between the faculty, study programs, and parents in supporting students’ academic journey, while also providing an overview of the faculty’s structure, vision and mission, study programs, curriculum, lecturers, and supporting facilities.

In his remarks, Prof. Bhimo Rizky Samudro, S.E., M.Si., Ph.D., Dean of FEB UNS, explained that the meeting was initiated as a preparatory step prior to the Introduction to Campus Life for New Students (PKKMB), which will take place from August 19 to 23, 2025. “We are grateful to be able to connect with all of you. By the time your children are admitted as students at FEB, they become part of the FEB UNS family. It is our responsibility, starting from the Dean Office to the Study Programs, to oversee various aspects of their academic activity, including teaching and learning process, as well as student organizations. However, FEB cannot achieve everything by ourselves; we need your contribution and collaboration, thus, students can complete both academic and non-academic program smoothly,” he conveyed.

Prof. Bhimo also highlighted FEB UNS achievements at both national and international levels. He further explained that the Dean Office has adopted a policy requiring students to engage in at least one non-academic activity through Student Activity Units (UKM) or Student Organizations (Ormawa). This is intended to support their academic abilities while also helping them develop skills such as public speaking and foreign language proficiency.

He then stressed the importance of joint efforts in fostering students’ mental development.

“I need to emphasize the importance of students’ mental growth. Beyond academics, we cannot fully control their personal lives. Today, we see students with strong academic capacity, a highly innovative student, with a quick adaptability, but even minor problems can be a trigger leading them to difficulties in managing emotions or behavior, disrupting their mental development. Therefore, from the start, let us work together to guide them. On campus, we (the faculty members) take the role of parents, but outside, we invite you to observe and support your children’s progress,” he explained.

Following the Dean’s address, the event continued with presentations from Vice Dean for Academic and Research Affairs, Prof. Tri Mulyaningsih, S.E., M.Si., Ph.D.; Vice Dean for Non-Academic Affairs, Sutaryo, S.E., M.Si., Ph.D., Ak., CA., CRA., CRP., ACPA.; and Vice Dean for Student and Alumni Affairs, Tastaftiyan Risfandy, S.E., M.Sc., Ph.D. Parents were also given the opportunity to engage in discussions with the Dean Office, followed by a session with each Head of Study Program (Kaprodi).

On this occasion the parents and guardians of FEB UNS new students were given the opportunity to discuss their concerns with the Dean’s Office, and later on with the respective Head of Study Program. This communication established between the students’ parents and guardian with the Faculty members reflecting support on the accomplishment of SDG 4: Quality Education, through a synergized student supports to achieve a holistic learning. Hopefully, this occasion will strengthen the new students mentality and academic foundation, for actualizing the vision on the inclusive and sustainable education.

The Master of Accounting (MAKSI) Study Program, Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) held a Curriculum Review for the Master of Accounting Study Program (MAKSI) on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, in Meeting Room 1, Soeharno TS Building, FEB UNS. On this occasion, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmad Fahmi Sheikh Hassan from Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) joined virtually to review the MAKSI curriculum.

In his opening remarks, Prof. Bhimo Rizky Samudro, S.E., M.Si., Ph.D., Dean of FEB UNS, welcomed and expressed his gratitude to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmad Fahmi Sheikh Hassan for taking the time to attend the curriculum review session. “Currently, our faculty has achieved the “Excellent” category from LAMEMBA and is ranked 350th in Asia. Nevertheless, we still require reviews and suggestions from external parties to gain fresh perspectives that will help us enhance our quality,” said Prof. Bhimo.

He further noted that an external review would greatly assist the program in identifying areas for improvement as future development targets. Prof. Bhimo also hoped that the discussion would yield new perspectives and insights from Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmad Fahmi Sheikh Hassan, particularly considering that UPM has successfully obtained AACSB accreditation.

Serving as moderator, Nasyi’ah Hasanah Purnomowati, S.E., M.Sc., Ak., stated that the aim of the event was to gather feedback and recommendations from relevant stakeholders, including the external reviewer present. She expressed her hope that the suggestions provided would offer valuable input for improving the quality of teaching and learning activities, contribute to curriculum development, and serve as a guide for achieving international quality standards.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmad Fahmi Sheikh Hassan conveyed his appreciation for the invitation to serve as a reviewer, particularly to the Dean of FEB UNS, Prof. Bhimo. He mentioned that on this occasion, he would mainly share his experiences in conducting curriculum reviews and serving as an auditor at various universities.

He expressed his hope for an interactive session where all participants could actively engage in discussions about the MAKSI curriculum. “This opportunity will be more of a sharing session, and I am very open to any questions. I will certainly have a few questions (for the Study Program) myself, so let’s make this event as interactive as possible,” he remarked.

Lulus Kurniasih, S.E., M.Si., Ak., Ph.D., Head of the MAKSI Program and MAKSI faculty member, was actively involved in the discussion.

This curriculum review, inviting Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmad Fahmi Sheikh Hassan does not only serves to strengthen the quality of education (in line with the SDG 4: Quality Education), but also highlighting the need for international partnership to broaden academic perspective, a concrete step in achieving the SDG 17: Partnership to achieve the Goals.

Faculty members and Academic Support Staff of the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS), participated in the FEB UNS Employee Capacity Building activities, held on Tuesday–Wednesday, 29–30 July 2025, in Bandungan. The event aimed to foster synergy, strengthen collaboration, and enhance communication among FEB UNS’ academic community, especially between faculty members and Academic Support Staff.

The series of activities included a Sarasehan (Forum) of the Faculty Member Welfare Association (KKFE), program-level meetings for faculty member, and Academic Support Staff meeting session, as well as a gathering session with the Dean’s Office.

On the second day, the faculty and Academic Support Staff took part in outbound activities featuring various fun games designed to develop social skills, boost self-confidence, build teamwork, enhance problem-solving abilities, and improve communication. Outbound activities also served as a refreshing break from daily routines.

Opening the Sarasehan session, FEB UNS Dean, Prof. Bhimo Rizky Samudro, S.E., M.Si., Ph.D., expressed his appreciation to all faculty members and Academic Support Staff who participated.

“Thank you to everyone present — faculty members and also Academic Support Staff. I also appreciate our senior lecturers who are here today: Prof. Tulus, Bu Tyas, Pak Wartono, Pak Agustinus, and Bu Djum. Let’s take a moment to relax today and enjoy this friendly gathering. Hopefully, this will strengthen our closeness. We need solidarity and unity — supporting each other,” he said.

Prof. Bhimo also emphasized that the Dean’s Office relies on the full support and cooperation of all elements within FEB UNS. Without teamwork, the goals they have built together cannot be achieved. Meanwhile, Prof. Irwan Trinugroho, S.E., M.Sc., Ph.D., QCRO., presented the targets that need to be supported collaboratively for UNS to continue achieving excellence.

The Sarasehan session with the Dean’s Office also featured a reflective sharing session from retiring faculty members, along with the presentation of mementos to six retirees of FEB UNS lecturers: Drs. Agus Budiatmanto, M.Si., Ak., Dr. Wartono, M.Si., Ak., Dr. Setianingtyas Honggowati, M.M., Ak., Prof. Dr. Tulus Haryono, M.Ek., and Dr. Djuminah, M.Si.

This capacity building for Faculty members and academic support staff strengthen the SDG 4: quality education by improving synergy, social skill, and internal collaboration.

Meanwhile the amicable atmosphere and interpersonal skill improvement reflects the SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institution, particularly in establishing an inclusive and supporting education institution.

The Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS), welcomed a benchmarking visit from the Quality Assurance Unit (GPM) of the Faculty of Economics, Universitas Tidar (UNTIDAR) Magelang, on Friday, 1 August 2025, in Meeting Room 1, Soeharno TS Building. The Dean’s Office, the Quality Assurance Unit (UPM), Heads of Divisions, and Heads of Subdivisions of FEB UNS received the leadership team and members of GPM FE UNTIDAR.

Prof. Bhimo Rizky Samudro, S.E., M.Si., Ph.D., Dean of FEB UNS, expressed his gratitude and extended a warm welcome to the delegation from FE UNTIDAR. He conveyed that FEB UNS is always open to receiving UNTIDAR, noting that in late 2024, FEB UNS also hosted a visit from the Academic Support Staff of FE UNTIDAR. He further explained that the quality assurance implementation at FEB UNS is led by the Head of UPM, Dr. Evi Gantyowati, M.Si., Ak., QA., supported by Dr. Mulyanto, M.E., as Deputy Head for Internal Quality Assurance System (SPMI), and Wahyu Trinarningsih, S.E., M.M., M.A., CFE., as Deputy Head for External Quality Assurance System (SPME), alongside the Quality Control Units in each study program.

“Quality assurance is highly important. During recent accreditation visitations for several study programs at FEB, the assessors also emphasized the significance of quality assurance. I hope that through this forum, FEB UNS and FE UNTIDAR can exchange ideas and share knowledge regarding quality assurance. Please feel free to engage in discussions; hopefully, this will be mutually beneficial,” stated Prof. Bhimo.

To enhance quality and develop the internal quality assurance system within FE UNTIDAR, Prof. Dr. Izza Mafruhah, S.E., M.Si., Dean of FE UNTIDAR, expressed appreciation to the leadership of FEB UNS for the opportunity to learn particularly about quality assurance.

“FE UNTIDAR has been established for quite some time, but it only became a state university in 2014. Therefore, most of our lecturers are relatively young, with an extraordinary enthusiasm for learning. With a predominance of younger generations, our pace is quite similar, and this potential needs to be supplemented with input from FEB UNS, which is in a far more advanced position,” remarked Prof. Izza.

She further noted that with the recent changes in the LAMEMBA accreditation system, one significant point of emphasis is internationalization. For this reason, FE UNTIDAR is learning from UNS, an institution with greater stability. The practices that FEB UNS has implemented and FE UNTIDAR has yet to adopt could serve as valuable examples.

Quality assurance is not limited to education and curriculum but also encompasses infrastructure, faculty members, and other related aspects. FEB UNS already has an established system for implementing quality assurance processes. The discussion session during the visit proceeded smoothly. The event concluded in the afternoon with a group photo session in the lobby of the Soeharno TS Building, 2nd floor.

This benchmarking visit from FE UNTIDAR for quality assurance support the SDG 4: quality education by improving academic quality system and reflecting on the SDG 17: Partnership for the Goals, by establishing institutional collaboration as a foundation to strengthen an inclusive and excellent higher education.

Gagaksipat Village, Ngemplak District, Boyolali Municipality, received special attention from the Community Engagement team of the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) through a barista training program held on Friday, June 13, 2025. The training was attended by members of BUMDes Gemilang and local residents, featuring coffee practitioner Renggo Putro Widyarta as the trainer. Participants were equipped with professional coffee brewing skills, knowledge of coffee varieties, and sustainable coffee shop business management.

With the team led by Dr. Dwi Prasetyani, S.E., M.Si., CRA., CRP., with members including Danur Condro Guritno, S.E., M.E., Ph.D., Ratna Malisa Indriawati, S.E., M.E., CBEc., Vita Kartika Sari, S.E., M.Sc., Aulia Hapsari Juwita, S.E., M.E., Dr. Vinc Hadi Wiyono WS., M.A., Dr. Akhmad Daerobi, M.S., and Dr. Guntur Riyanto, M.Si. This program become part of a strategic initiative to enhance the technical skills of the community in managing coffee-related businesses professionally, while at the same time optimizing the role of BUMDes Gemilang as a driver of the local economy.

The activities covered several stages, including community needs assessment, program design, training implementation, and continuous business mentoring. Applying a participatory and empowerment-based approach, the team successfully engaged BUMDes members and Gagaksipat residents at every stage. The training, guided by professional coffee practitioner Renggo Putro Widyarta, provided participants with high-quality coffee brewing techniques, coffee business management, and adaptive marketing strategies aligned with market trends.

Beyond face-to-face sessions, the Community Engagement team also established a WhatsApp group to ensure ongoing communication and mentoring between participants and experts, supporting the independent and sustainable operation of coffee businesses. “We see tremendous potential in Gagaksipat Village, especially in the coffee sector, which is rapidly growing in Indonesia. Through this training and mentoring, we aim to empower the community not only to be consumers but also to become professional and independent coffee entrepreneurs,” said Dr. Dwi Prasetyani.

Aside from enhancing technical skills, the team also supported the optimization of BUMDes Gemilang’s basecamp as a center for education and business incubation, which had previously been underutilized. With this facility, new innovations and collaborations are expected to emerge, encouraging the growth of coffee businesses and other microenterprises in the village.

“We are committed to continuously assisting BUMDes Gemilang in developing its business, including connecting them with coffee industry stakeholders and local communities to ensure broader and sustainable market access,” explained Dr. Dwi Prasetyani.

The program also opened opportunities for new businesses aligned with current coffee trends, such as fresh milk coffee made from local ingredients and mobile coffee businesses using bicycle carts. These initiatives not only increase community income but also strengthen the role of BUMDes Gemilang as an engine of the village economy.

Moving forward, the Community Engagement team plans to continue both online and offline mentoring while expanding collaborative networks. With active community participation and consistent support from the team, Gagaksipat Village is expected to strengthen its economic independence and competitiveness in a sustainable way.
