Over 300 Participants Join National Seminar on Empowering Youth Potential to Advance the Circular Economy through Social Media and Culture

Student Association of Development Economics Study Program, Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS), organized the 18th Annual Conference of Economics Forum 2024 (ALCOFE) on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at the Suhardi Hall FEB UNS. “We are discussing sustainable economics, the role of youth, and the influence of social media and culture. Our cultural diversity is one of the strengths of our nation. This diversity often becomes a key driver for innovation,” he explained.

He further emphasized that while the circular economy has been widely discussed, this seminar offers students a valuable opportunity to learn directly from the speakers.

Unlike the linear economic approach, which views the economy as a conventional cycle of producing, using, and discarding waste, the circular economy focuses on sustainability and innovation. He also pointed out the critical role of social media in spreading awareness and promoting circular economy practices across all levels of society.

Additionally, he reminded the participants that the nation has an important capital related to the cultural wealth. He then, encouraged students, as agents of change, to utilize information platforms and social media effectively to advocate for these initiatives, considering the vast role of social media and digital campaign.

“I urge all participants to use this forum as an opportunity to exchange ideas and put forward questions relevant to today’s speakers. Let’s ensure the insights gained here extend beyond this hall. Sustainability in economics doesn’t stop at the classroom or seminar—it’s about individual contributions, whether it’s waste management or extending production chains to optimize resource use,” he concluded.

Tastaftiyan Risfandy, S.E., M.Sc., Ph.D., Vice Dean for Student Affairs and Alumni FEB UNS, echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the importance of collaboration among government, industries, and youth in advancing the circular economy.

“Promoting positive initiatives like the circular economy is crucial. The more we amplify this message, the greater the chance it reaches policymakers, leaders, members of parliament, ministers, and even the president, paving the way for sustainable policies,” he remarked.

  • Curriculum Development Workshop for MM Program Discusses Permendikbudristek No. 53 of 2023

Curriculum Development Workshop for MM Program Discusses Permendikbudristek No. 53 of 2023

The Master of Management (MM) Study Program, Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS), conducted a “Curriculum Development Workshop for the Master of Management Study Program” on September 27–28, 2024, at Bandungan.

The event featured two keynote speakers: Mirwan Surya Perdhana, S.E., M.M., Ph.D., Head of the MM Program at Universitas Diponegoro (UNDIP), and Prof. Dr. sc. Agr. Ir. Adi Ratriyanto, S.Pt., M.P., IPU., ASEAN Eng., a member of the drafting team for UNS Rector’s Regulations based on Permendikbudristek No. 53 of 2023. The workshop, attended by MM Program lecturers, was moderated by Wahyu Trinarningsih, S.E., M.M., M.A.

Dr. Retno Tanding Suryandari, S.E., M.E., Ph.D., who oversaw the event, emphasized that the MM Study Program must address a new regulation regarding curriculum adjustments, as stipulated in Permendikbudristek No. 53 of 2023, which is set to be implemented in 2025.

She noted that although the university has not yet issued derivative regulations based on the Ministry’s policy, the program invited the Head of the MM Program at UNDIP, as UNDIP has already implemented the regulation. Additionally, the event included Prof. Adi Ratriyanto, a team member responsible for drafting the university’s regulation aligned with the Ministry’s directive.

“The key issue is the increased credit requirements for the MM Program. Currently set at 36 credits, the new standard mandates a minimum of 54 and a maximum of 72 credits. One aspect highlighted is that mandatory dissemination of research publications will no longer be required. However, discussions at the university level suggest that UNS may still impose this requirement under specific conditions. With these additional credit requirements, discussions like this are essential,” she explained.

She further expressed hope that the discussions during the workshop would serve as a valuable resource as the MM Study Program prepares for reaccreditation, with its current accreditation expiring in November 2025. Dr. Retno added that initial data collection for the reaccreditation process has already begun and will be further managed by the newly appointed Head of the MM Program, Dr. Lilik Wahyudi, S.E., M.Si.

During the workshop, Prof. Adi Ratriyanto presented material on “Policy Directions for the Rector’s Regulation Draft for Master’s and Doctoral Programs,” while Mirwan Surya Perdhana, S.E., M.M., Ph.D., shared insights on the implementation of Permendikbudristek No. 53 of 2023 at UNDIP.

Participants were given the opportunity to engage in discussions with the speakers, exploring various aspects of the policy. In the evening, the event continued with a detailed discussion on the MM Study Program curriculum, led by Dr. Lilik Wahyudi, S.E., M.Si., the newly appointed Head of the MM Study Program for the 2024–2029 period.

  • KEI FEB UNS Holds National Webinar on Easy Steps to Become a Young Investor Through Sharia Stock Investment

KEI FEB UNS Holds National Webinar on Easy Steps to Become a Young Investor Through Sharia Stock Investment

The Islamic Economics Studies Student Association (KEI), Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) successfully hosted a national webinar in collaboration with IDX Syariah and Korean Investment & Sekuritas Indonesia (KISI). The event, held on Saturday, September 21, 2024, focused on the theme “Easy Steps to Become a Young Investor Through Sharia Stock Investment.”

The webinar featured three speakers: Deri Yustria from the Sharia Capital Market Division, Asep Saepul Milah from Korean Investment & Sekuritas, and Mohammad Rofiul Azka Nahdi, a Sharia Literacy Ambassador. Over 50 students from various universities participated in the event online.

The first session was led by Mohammad Rofiul Azka Nahdi, who introduced the topic of financial planning, particularly for students. Azka emphasized the importance of creating financial plans and investments at an early stage. “To ensure that our loved ones live comfortably, to pursue our dreams and goals, and to anticipate unexpected expenses, all of these can be achieved by making a structured and well-thought-out financial plan,” he said.

He further explained that financial planning steps could start with analyzing essential needs, such as housing, higher education, and saving for retirement. Second, it is essential to track all income and expenses in detail. The habit of recording daily earnings and expenditures helps to understand where the money is coming from and where it is going. Third, allocating funds from earnings into various categories such as basic needs, savings, investments, and charity is crucial. Lastly, it is important to evaluate and adjust the financial plan regularly to keep it relevant and effective.

The second speaker, Derry Yustria SE., MBA., CFP., an official at IDX Syariah since 2008, discussed the benefits of investing in sharia stocks. He highlighted that Sharia-compliant stocks can be inherited, donated, or used as dowries for marriage.

The third speaker, Asep Muhamad Saepul Milah, S.Pd., RTA., an experienced investment specialist at Korean Investment, shared insights on the importance of investing as a student, especially for those living away from home, who may have high expenses and occasional large unexpected costs.

“As students, especially those living away from home, we often face significant expenses and unexpected costs. In such situations, we all realize that investment plays a vital role in safeguarding our finances, especially during a financial crisis or when funds run out before the end of the month,” he explained.

Through the presentations by the three speakers, students gained valuable knowledge about Sharia-based investments.

  • Alumni Talk: Motivating PDIE Students

    Alumni Talk: Motivating PDIE Students

The Doctoral Program in Economics (PDIE), Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) held an Alumni Talk at the Ki Hadjar Dewantara Building, UNS, on Tuesday, September 24, 2024.

The event, attended by both alumni and students of PDIE, featured three distinguished speakers: Dr. Erna Setiany, M.Si, Ak., Vice Rector of Universitas Mercu Buana; Dr. Anto Prabowo, MBA., Senior Advisor to the Financial Services Authority (OJK); and Dr. Rochmat Aldy Purnomo, M.Si., from Universitas Muhammadiyah Ponorogo.

In her opening speech, Prof. Dr. Rahmawati, M.Si., Ak., Interim Head of the PDIE Program, explained that this event is part of an annual routine aimed at strengthening connections between alumni and current students.

This year, PDIE invited speakers from different specializations: Dr. Erna, representing the Accounting focus; Dr. Anto from the Management focus; and Dr. Rochmat Aldy from the Development Economics focus.

Prof. Rahmawati also highlighted the crucial role of PDIE alumni in supporting the program’s accreditation process. With over 155 alumni already recorded, their participation is essential in upcoming activities. PDIE is set for re-accreditation in 2026 using the Lamemba instrument.

Additionally, Prof. Rahmawati shared feedback from an assessor in 2022, suggesting the separation of the PDIE program into three distinct doctoral programs: PDIE for Development Economics, Doctoral Program in Accounting (PDIA), and Doctoral Program in Management (PDIM). “This would make sense because alignment is essential. Development Economics should stay under PDIE, while Management and Accounting should each have their own proposals,” she explained.

Regarding the typical study duration, Prof. Rahmawati noted that students usually complete their studies in an average of 4.2 years, with the ideal time frame being between 3 to 4 years. If students receive a scholarship for a 3-year program, it can be extended for an additional year.

She encouraged the students by saying, “Stay motivated and listen to the three alumni speakers. I hope their insights will inspire you to finish your studies on time, ideally within 3 to 4 years. Delaying beyond that can negatively affect the program’s average completion time.”

The PDIE program has also engaged in various activities involving international speakers and has established collaborative research and supervision partnerships.

Meanwhile, Dr. H. Abdul Kharis Almasyhari, S.E., M.Si., AKT., CA., Chairman of the PDIE Alumni Association, expressed continued support for the program.

“From the beginning, as the first cohort of PDIE alumni, we’ve hoped to see the program’s quality continuously improve. We urge the program administrators not to tolerate any decline in quality. We are ready to help maintain and enhance the PDIE program so that it can stand alongside other advanced doctoral programs from leading universities,” he stated.

He also hoped that with more alumni from various disciplines and work environments, PDIE UNS would gain greater recognition. The three speakers, Dr. Erna, Dr. Anto, and Dr. Aldy, shared valuable insights and motivated the attendees, most of whom were PDIE students.
