The Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held an International Webinar titled “Economic Recovery and SDGs Insight from COVID-19 Pandemic”, Thursday 24 February 2022, in a Hybrid manner at Hall IV Building FEB UNS and Zoom Meeting. The webinar presented two keynote speakers, namely Doni Primantono Joewono, who currently serves as Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia, and Muhammad Ichsanuddin as Deputy Commissioner of OJK in the Non-Bank Financial Industry (IKNB), and three invited speakers.

The five speakers will discuss in depth the condition of economic recovery in Indonesia, the ASEAN region, and its implications for the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The three invited speakers are Prof. Dr. Tamat Sarmidi, Professor of Economics, the National University of Malaysia with a presentation on economic recovery and SDGs in Malaysia, ASEAN, and its relation to SDGs; Dr. Arianto A. Patunru, Crawford School of Public Policy, Australian National University with material on the relevance of the SDGs and post-pandemic conditions especially in the food security sector; and Prof. Dr. Rahmawati, Professor of Accounting FEB UNS with material entitled “Optimisation of BUMDES in the Processing of Tourist Waste in Berjo Karanganyar.”

The Dean of FEB UNS, Prof. Djoko Suhardjanto, in her remarks, expressed her gratitude to all parties involved in organizing the international webinar. Prof. Djoko stated that the process of Indonesia’s economic recovery in 2021 has brought a message to all Indonesians to remain optimistic.

In addition to the webinar, the agenda on the day also included the official launching of the book “Indonesia Economic Recovery After Covid-19: Multiple Aspect Approach,” written by FEB UNS Faculty members, which also contains chapters from academics from partner universities such as Prof. Siong Hook Law from Universiti Putra Malaysia, as well as Doni Primantono Joewono, and Muhammad Ichsanuddin as editors.

The webinar that lasted more than two hours was concluded with a question and answer session and the launch of the Second International INCREDIBLE Conference website (2nd International Congress on Regional Economic Development, Information Technology, and Sustainable Business-INCREDIBLE) to be held on August 25-26, 2022, as part of the UNS 46th Anniversary celebration. The Internal Service and Dharma Wanita Persatuan of the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) UNS, led by Dr. Atmaji, M.M., as Chairman of the Committee, hosted Reunion Meeting with the FEB UNS Senior Academic Members at Pendopo Aula Suhardi, which is also known as Aula Gedung 3 FEB UNS.  A number of FEB UNS seniors were present including Tjilik Suwito, Soetantyo, Sri Suwarsi, GAA Susilowati, Darustam, and Mahastuti Agung. The event is packed in a relaxed, joyful, intimate atmosphere that recalls numerous experiences during the FEB UNS establishment, along with a variety of sad stories.

Prof. Drs. Djoko Suhardjanto, M.Com, Ph.D., Ak., as Dean of FEB UNS in his remarks, said that events like this are significant. This meeting between seniors and juniors academic members allows the attending participants to find out and understand how FEB UNS was established. He also sent a message to the attending academic members to always live in harmony and tranquility within the faculty and university environment. This activity is also expected to be organized as a regular agenda.

Prof. Djoko Suhardjanto also expressed his gratitude to the seniors who had provided a strong foundation that allowed FEB UNS to have such achievements today. “Thank you to Mr./Mrs. Senior who has laid the foundation for the establishment of FEB. Without you, ladies and gentlemen, FEB UNS wouldn’t have been able to do this. And for juniors, don’t forget history. From the seniors, we can find out the historical facts of how FEB UNS was established with all its struggles. And this must be understood by all of us,” he stressed.

At the event, the Dean of FEB UNS also conveyed various achievements that FEB UNS has achieved to date. Since October 6, 2020, UNS has officially been a Legal Entity State University (PTNBH), based on Presidential Regulation No. 56 of 2020 concerning UNS PTNBH. With that status, the objective to be a top 500 campus globally will be more and more likely to achieve.

FEB UNS itself is ranked +600 based on World Univerity Ranking (WUR). This faculty had conducted International Class Program for the Undergraduate Program in Accounting and Undergraduate Program in Development Economics. Another achievement was successfully obtaining the Kedaireka Matching Fund entitled “Educamp Wisata Preneur.” One of FEB UNS study programs, the Undergraduate in Economic Development Study Program, successfully established a cooperation program with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). In addition, the Undergraduate in Management Study Program won the Independent Campus Competition Program Grant.

As for the upcoming plan in 2022, FEB UNS will establish a Bachelor in Digital Business Study Program and open an International class for the Bachelor in Management Study Program. FEB UNS is also trying to accelerate the Associate Professor and Professor inauguration. Such efforts aim to encourage further attempts to establish FEB UNS as a more advanced faculty and create many excellent professors to strengthen the faculty rankings nationally and internationally.

Meanwhile, Dr. Atmaji, M.M., in his activity report, reported that the 2022 Reunion Meeting with FEB UNS Senior academic members was the third agenda. Previously, the team paid a friendly visit to the family home of the FEB UNS founder on Wednesday (2/23/2022) and a tomb pilgrimage on Friday (3/4/2022). The events organized were hosted in cooperation with the FEB UNS alumni.

FEB UNS also presented a special gift by capturing the names of the faculty founders as the name of the Faculty building. This decision will create a FEB UNS that will never forget the Faculty founding fathers’ history and their important roles. The five names include Soeharno T.S. for Building I, Djarwanto P.S. for Building II, Suhardi for Building III, Bachtiar Effendi for Building IV, and Soedarah Soepono for Building V FEB UNS.

“The naming of the building has been officially stated in the UNS Rector Decree No 12/UN27/HK/2022 dated January 4, 2022, concerning the Naming of the Building in the Universitas Sebelas Maret Environment in 2022,” Atmaji explained.

Doni Primanto Joewono, M.Sc., the Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia, was re-elected as the Founding Chairman, at the same time also served as the Chairman of the Alumni Association of the Faculty of Economics and Business (KAFEB), Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) for the period 2021-2026. This decision was based on the KAFEB UNS National Assembly results held in the FEB UNS Hall Saturday, 29/1/2022. The MUNAS Hearing, chaired by Agung Nur Probohudono, Ph.D., was attended by FEB UNS alumni representatives from the class of 1976 to 2017 under the support of various parties such as BI Solo, PT Kereta Api Indonesia, PT Jaktour, Batik Riana, and other personal sponsors.

In the previous period’s accountability report, Doni P. Joewono thanked the managers and also described all implemented programs for the year. “We, on behalf of KAFEB 2016-2021, thank all parties who are willing to take the administrator’s role. For the last 5 (five) years, even though we managed to accomplish a lot, I personally think that it was not optimal yet. Nevertheless, we must continue to build KAFEB as a professional organization. We successfully established a KAFEB UNS bank account during the previous period and determined the KAFEB UNS logo. In the previous period of 5 (five) years, we arranged better administration,” he said.

According to Doni P. Joewono, there are several programs that will be carried out in the next period, such as achievement scholarships provided by KAFEB, research studies, alumni database development, including various development activities in the field of institutions and alumni.

The National Assembly entitled “Together with FEB Alumni Building Independence and Excellence for UNS” was attended by the Rector of UNS, Prof. Jamal Wiwoho; Chairman of IKA UNS, Ir. Budi Harto; FEB UNS Dean, Prof. Djoko Suhardjanto; Chairman of the Board of Commissioners (DK) Financial Services Authority (OJK), Prof. Wimboh Santoso; Deputy Governor of Bank Indonesia, Doni Primanto Joewono, M.Sc.; President Director (CEO) of PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI), Didiek Hartantyo; and other alumni.

During the Assembly, the KAFEB UNS also launched Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) KAFEB UNS as a digital payment innovation that can facilitate alumni fundraising. Besides KAFEB UNS, QRIS has also been implemented in the UNS campus environment, including cafeterias, places of worship, and gas stations, which was installed in 2021 in collaboration with Bank Indonesia Solo. The Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Sebelas Maret (FEB UNS) welcomes a visit from Al-Azhar 8 Bekasi Islamic High School in the Teleconference Room FEB UNS, Friday 7 January 2022.

In his remarks, Sulardiyono, S.Pd., MM., the Vice-Principal of SMA Islam Al-Azhar 8, on behalf of the school leadership, conveyed his respectful greetings and expressing his gratitude to the Dean of FEB UNS and the faculty staff for the opportunity given to SMA Al-Azhar 8 to visit FEB UNS. He hopes this visit will be of particular benefit to students. Further, he states that particular points are to be learned during this visit to FEB UNS, such as information on FEB UNS excellences, graduate profiles, and career opportunities, especially alumni’s success stories. Additionally, the visit aims to get information regarding the admission channel, scholarships offered in the faculty, and the implementation of the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM).

Following Mr. Sulardiyono remark, the Vice Dean of Academic, Research, and Student Affairs FEB UNS, Prof. Dr. Izza Mafruhah, SE, M.Si., at the beginning of her virtual speech representing the Dean, welcoming Al-Azhar 8 Islamic High School’s leaders, teachers, and students through Zoom Cloud Meeting. Further, Prof. Izza introduced the FEB UNS leadership position and the faculty profile, including explanations related to study programs (prodi), human resources, collaboration, graduate profiles, student organizations, and the MBKM program.

In front of more than 200 Al-Azhar 8 Islamic High School students who attended the visit virtually, Prof. Izza also conveyed a trick to achieve students’ target, namely SMART. This SMART method is not only meant smart in a literal way, but also stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and Time Bounded. “To achieve a target, we must be specific in determining the study program we are going to. We must also be able to measure our own abilities, measurable. Achievable refers to setting an achievable target, do not dream too high. Your target must be reasonable considering your ability. Realistic means that the target we set must be adjusted to the provisions we have. Lastly, a target must be time-bounded, referring to a specific time period. When we have about 3 or 4 months left to compete in a university admission selection, we have to increase our study time and reduce playtime. With SMART’s, we will be able to determine what targets to achieve,” she explained.

Meanwhile, Yaman Umaran, S.Si., from UPT SPMB UNS, detailed the stages of choosing the right State Universities (PTN), admission channels, opportunities, and strategies for the PTN admission test. Briefly, Yaman conveyed three strategies that students must prepare to get enrolled in PTN, namely, determining the field of study they are interested in, choosing a reputable university that supports success, and preparing themselves seriously in participating in the selection to enter PTN. Bachelor in Accounting Study Program, Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) hosted a Visiting Lecture entitled ‘Research Methodology in Accounting, Business, Finance, and Economics: Natural Experiment and Panel Data,’ with Professor Ruhul Salim, BSc, MSc, Ph.D., Director of Graduate Researcher in the School of Economics and Finance, Curtin University Australia.

On the first day of the Visiting Lecturer, Tuesday 14/12/2021, Prof. Ruhul delivered introductory material on statistics for research in the fields of accounting, business, finance, and economics.

To perform statistical analysis in research, Prof. Ruhul stated that regression analysis could help researchers find the effect of one independent variable on the dependent variable. For example, regression analysis can help researchers find the relationship between CEO salary and company performance.

“As the starting point of the analysis, a scatterplot of the two variables studied is important,” he said. Further, Prof. Ruhul stated that, although helpful, sometimes the regression analysis results give results that are ‘unnatural’ or not in accordance with the existing theory.

Under these conditions, the researcher can dig deeper to find the cause of the narrow results through other analyzes. On the sidelines of the material, Prof. Ruhul gives a short quiz as student practice material.

“I hope that participants can understand the material I delivered today regarding the Introduction to Research Method Program (Introduction to Research Method Program). In this session, we discuss the quantitative method, namely the simple linear regression method (SLRM). In the next session, we will discuss Multiple Linear Regression and Panel Data,” concluded Prof. Ruhul, concluding his material presentation. The Visiting Lecturer agenda is divided into three sessions where each session will discuss the topic of research methods in more in-depth.

The Academic Members of the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) UNS celebrate the inauguration of a new professor in Financial Management, Prof. Irwan Trinugroho, M.Sc, Ph.D. The new professor’s inauguration ceremony took place on Thursday (12/30/2021) through a hybrid event at the UNS Auditorium, Zoom Cloud Meeting, and UNS Youtube Livestream.

Prof. Irwan is an outstanding professor for inaugurated as a professor at a very young age, 37 years old. What is more astonishing is that his journey to accomplish this achievement was speedily and adorned with outstanding achievements. This message was conveyed by the Dean of FEB UNS, Prof. Djoko Suhardjanto, M. Com (Hons)., Ph.D., Ak., in his remarks during the ‘Mangayubagyo’ (t/n: a celebration of special achievement) Professor Inauguration of Prof. Irwan Trinugroho, at the Building 3 FEB UNS (FEB UNS Auditorium).

“Today is a happy day, and we have a prodigious professor—the youngest professor at UNS, at the age of 37 years old. The journey to reach the title is extraordinary and significantly swift. His achievements are wonderful, with a total of 54 publications, 19 of which are published in Scopus Q1 journals. Prof. Irwan also holds important positions at UNS and contributes to the nation. This achievement is extraordinary, and he is a role model for all of us,” he said proudly.

Hopefully, Prof. Irwan’s inauguration will inspire other lecturers to become a professor and contribute to FEB and UNS’s achievements in the international arena.

Meanwhile, Prof. Irwan was extremely touched and grateful for the celebration at FEB. Although recently he rarely visited FEB physically, for him, FEB is still his home. He invited the FEB academic community always to maintain solidarity. “Thank you, without the help of FEB faculty members, I would not have reached this accomplishment. FEB is my home, and I will do anything for FEB, always keep the solidarity and collaboration in FEB UNS,” he said.

The Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS), hosted an Outbound and Workshops for Academic Support Staff, Saturday, December 18, 2021, in Kemuning, Karanganyar. The series of outbound attended by the Dean and FEB Academic Support Staff (Tendik) included Fun Game, River Tubing, and Jeep Offroad.

In his short brief, Prof. Djoko Suhardjanto, the Dean of FEB UNS, said that these outbound activities and workshops aim to increase teamwork and collaboration. “We all have to work together in harmony, mutually support each other, and collaborate to achieve the institution’s goals because our challenges ahead are harder. This year UNS has implemented the PTNBH regulation; thus, we have a lot to do,” he stressed.

As a forum to nurture this togetherness, FEB UNS also formed ‘Guyub Rukun Community.’ The Dean expressed his gratitude and wished the support staff to enjoy the activities that would last from morning to evening. All support staff is expected to help each other, especially facing natural obstacles.

Meanwhile, the Vice Dean of Academic Research and Student Affairs, Prof. Dr. Izza Mafruhah, recounts the excitement for water tourism that day after participating in river-tubing. “I have participated in several water-themed tours, but this time it was quite cool, the site is steeper, the water waves were huge, we were surrendered to the condition. We can scream to remove the existing blockages,” she said.

According to her, these types of activities are beneficial to increasing self-confidence. When facing natural forces, we have to face it, especially when we do not understand the possible outcome for retreating, our level of submission deepens.

“The lesson we learn here is, no matter what happens, we have to move on because if we do not take steps, we will not reach the goal. Start anything with ‘bismillah,’ followed with ‘zikrullah,’ finish anything with ‘alhamdulillah,’ and always end with ‘istighfar,’” Prof. Izza said, full of motivation.

In line with Prof. Izza’s statement, a support staff assigned for Deanery Secretariat, Diah Ayu Kusumaningtyas, S.Pd., M.Pd., said this activity was extraordinary and solid. She further thanked FEB for initiating this activity. She further reveals that even though they were shocked and had to recite prayers because of the very strong jets of water in the river tubing, InsyaAllah, she believes that all participants are safe as long as they follow the instructions from the instructor.

Additionally, fun game activities also train participants to focus on the instructor’s orders. River tubing trains courage. Participants also go off-road on a jeep to enter the rubber forest area. Various obstacles, roads full of slippery mud, and around a steep ravine can finally be passed. (Humas FEB UNS)

The Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS), participated in the Innovation & Business Expo at the GPH Haryo Mataram Auditorium UNS, Monday to Tuesday, 13-14 December 2021. The FEB UNS team displayed various products from the Entrepreneurship Program, Matching Fund, and Tourism Educamp (EWP) at the expo, which was also attended by Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Solo Raya. One of the FEB students, Eklisia Exsis In Samodra, who actively participates in the FEB UNS Entrepreneurship Program and is joining the expo for the first time, is very happy with this activity.

“My motivation for participating in this expo is to test the product, hoping to meet investors, who will be interested in developing this product together with us. Starting from this business establishment, we have participated in several programs hosted by FEB UNS to get product suggestions and evaluations from the practitioners or lecturers, whether the products are feasible or not, and the response given is excellent, so we are enthusiastic about doing so participate in this expo. Our target is to expand this business for export,” the Development Economics Study Program student said.

Eklisia Exsis In Samodra, usually known as Exsis, along with two other students, has created some fashion products, such as Outer, Jumputan, Crop Top Tenun, and Obi Belt Asmat. The four products have passed the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka Program (MBKM) assessment and will be marketed through e-commerce. Other products displayed were shoes and bags from the Matching Fund Program. There were also souvenirs and the Smart Cash Application, available on the Playstore and Appstore, from the Tourism Entrepreneur Educamp Program.

The Innovation & Business Expo is one of the activities in a series of UNS Innovation Festival organized by the Directorate of Innovation and Downstreaming, Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS), in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Affairs, Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, Ministry of Trade, and the Apindo.

In his opening remarks at the Expo opening ceremony, Monday, December 13, 2021, the Vice-Rector for Research and Innovation Affairs, Prof. Dr. Kuncoro Diharjo, ST, MT., said this festival was supported by various initiatives from the UNS Startup Program with its Semesta Program that provide incubation assistance for 37 tenants. The synergy established with the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy facilitates 135 legal entities for MSME in Indonesia and IPR registration services implemented in 5 cities. Together with the ‘Indonesia Direct’ in developing a Digital Startup Platform, Tourism Educamp (EWP) with 5 (five) priority tourist destinations, namely Lombok, North Sulawesi, Labuan Bajo, and Borobudur. This collaboration is strengthened with individual assistance for MSME provided by the Ministry of Social Affairs to improve their competency to strengthen MSMEs’ economic power.

UNS actively involves students in these entrepreneurship activities to help creative economy practitioners while providing learning opportunities for students to learn entrepreneurship directly.

“Today, we can exhibit numerous creative industry products, and hopefully, in early 2022, we can enhance this program by strengthening business establishments or registration of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) assistance services; hence, supporting the strengthening of the Indonesian economy. All those products can also be integrated into the existing market potential to support the strengthening of the tourism industry,” he said.

The peak activity of the UNS Innovation Festival was held on Tuesday, December 14, 2021, which was attended by the Mayor of Surakarta, Gibran Rakabuming Raka. The Mayor of Surakarta directly inspected the stand for innovative products. (Humas FEB UNS)
